The men’s hockey club started in 1978 entering a team in the second grade comp. This team won the premiership and was promoted to first grade in 1979. In the first year in this grade the team played against Albion Park in the grand final and beat them to win the premiership. This was the first time Albion Park had been beaten in 13 years in a grand final, thus ending their dominance in this grade.
Since then, Fairy Meadow men’s teams have won seven first grade premierships, two second grade premierships, one third, one fourth and one fifth grade premiership. By 2002, about 350 people had played for Fairy Meadow with many representing Illawarra, Country, State, National league and Australia.
The success of this club has been due to a number of people over the years who have giving their time to ensure that Fairy Meadow continues to be a force within the Illawarra competition. These people have also created and promoted a strong junior base with a large number of these players playing up and continuing into the senior levels.
To be the best we need the continuing support and assistance from people within the club.
